Dr. Sylvia Hollifield is a powerhouse in the world of music and education. With a rich background as a choir director, singer, composer, and educator, she has left an indelible mark on both the musical and academic spheres. Hailing from Detroit, Dr. Hollifield's journey began in the classrooms of K-12 education, where she served as a teacher, counselor, and administrator. Today, she shares her wealth of knowledge as an Assistant Professor at Michigan State University, shaping the minds of future educators in the College of Education.
Dr. Hollifield's passion for music is palpable. She's taught vocal music across various public schools, spreading the joy of music from Detroit to Lancaster, OH, and Rochester, NY. As the Director of the Cathedral Choir at Hartford Memorial Baptist Church, she leads with grace and skill, enriching the spiritual lives of many. Not content with just performing and teaching, Dr. Hollifield is also a prolific composer and the proud owner of Sands Opus 118, LLC. Her dedication to the preservation of vocal music in public schools led her to establish Michigan Sings, Inc., a nonprofit organization empowering students and supporting music programs from grades 7-12.
Dr. Hollifield's contributions extend beyond the classroom and stage. She serves as the National President of The Pierians, Inc., a prestigious national organization celebrating women in the arts.
