ASM
Aesthetically Speaking Music (ASM) is a series of sessions about African diasporic music and culture. It is presented online, with educators from across the USA and Brazil. ASM explores the philosophies and challenges of Great Thinkers in this musical tradition. We examine the psycho-social, political and economic aesthetics of creative endeavors. Innovators, acknowledged and under acknowledged, have had a lasting effect on the world’s listeners and lovers of African diasporic music. Through deep listening and research, we observe the evolution and contributions of community scholars, vocalists, instrumentalists, recording labels, composers, arrangers, and the venues that served as forums for creative expressions

Sessions are structured in a survey class format based on specific themes. Educators prepare a playlist with music, interviews, articles, and other media content, explaining the historical context, social impact, and cultural influences of selected works. ASM invites participants from throughout the world, creating opportunities for global connectedness. Our sessions consist of an expository playlist and student discussions.

How to participate
ASM is a 6 weeks program, who happens seasonally, and with a free participation from our audience. Although all the sessions are connected by a general theme, each one is centered in a specific place, or artist, and the participants can appreciate each session separately without having to commit to the whole program.

The sessions occur every Tuesday and Thursday along 6 weeks. Every module starts with a FREE Open House on Thursday and ends with a FREE bonus session. Each week costs $25.

Cost for the full 6 weeks program: $150
